Services Provided

 

Manual Wheelchair Assessments

-Will assess for a proper fitting manual wheelchair that will be comfortable and be easy to propel

-Types of manual wheelchairs assessed for include: standard weight, light weight, ultralight, and manual tilt in space

-Funding sources include: Saskatchewan Abilities Council, NIHB, private insurance companies, and private purchase

Power Wheelchair Assessments

-Will assess for an appropriate power wheelchair, ensuring user safety and comfort while driving the chair.

-Power wheelchair types include: Front wheel drive, Mid wheel drive, Rear wheel drive, Van style seating chair, Rehab seating chair, Power tilt in space chair, and Power tilt with recline.

-Funding sources include: Saskatchewan Abilities Council (SAC), NIHB, private insurance companies, and private purchase.

-Will complete an additional visit once the chair arrives to provide education and setup of the components.

Seating Component Assessment

-Will assess posture, pressure relief and comfort in the seating system.

-Will order and install seating components as required (such as backrests, specialized cushions, and other off-the-shelf specialized products).

-Funding sources include: Saskatchewan Abilities Council (SAC), NIHB, private insurance, and private purchase.

-Can refer on to the Wascana Rehabilitation Centre Seating team if custom seating is required.

Home Adaptive Equipment Assessment

-Will provide in- home assessments to ensure safety during day to day activities.

-Equipment will be recommended to improve safety of various activities such as: bathing, transfers, and mobility. Examples of equipment include: bathseat, raised toilet seat, wall bars, ceiling track lifts, floor style lifts, hospital beds.

-Funding for certain types of equipment is available through the Saskatchewan Abilities Council, NIHB, private insurance, and for private purchase from local vendors.

Home Renovations for Accessibility

-Recommendations on home accessibility will be given. Examples include: installing a porch lift, wheelchair ramp, roll in shower, and modifications for wheelchair users.

-Can assist with obtaining quotes from local vendors for the recommended work.

-Funding for certain equipment available through Saskatchewan Aids to Independent Living (SAIL) , Paraprogram, the Saskatchewan Abilities Council (SAC), and through private purchase from local vendors.

-Can assist filling in application form for the Saskatchewan Home Repair Program Adaptation for Independence program.

Other OT Services

-Can assist with completion of Kinsmen Telemiracle forms

-Can assess for other mobility aids such as walkers and power scooters
